Countdown to the 2027 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Cape Town

The 2027 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships will take place in Cape Town from October 6 to 10, welcoming elite mountain and trail runners from around the globe. This event marks the first time the championships will be held in Africa and is the first World Championship in athletics hosted in South Africa since 1993.

Organized by Golazo South Africa, Athletics South Africa, and Western Province Athletics, the championships are expected to significantly impact South African athletics and the growth of mountain and trail running worldwide. The event will feature individual and team competitions across various disciplines, alongside mass-participation events for over 2,000 amateur runners.

As the event approaches, excitement is building among athletes and federations, with preparations underway for trials and training. The championships aim not only to crown world champions but also to foster athlete development and increase participation in the sport across Africa.
