Court Hears Allegations of Racial Abuse Against Antoine Semenyo
Antoine Semenyo was allegedly subjected to racial abuse by a Liverpool fan while playing for Bournemouth at Anfield last August, according to testimony in court. The incident occurred approximately 30 minutes into the match on August 15, when Semenyo was preparing to take a throw-in.
Mark Mogan, 47, is accused of directing racial slurs at Semenyo, who reportedly froze in shock upon hearing the remarks. The prosecution stated that Mogan shouted at Semenyo, prompting the footballer to report the incident to the match referee. Mogan was subsequently removed from the stadium at halftime.
Witnesses described Mogan's behavior as agitated, with one fan noting that Mogan threw chewing gum at Semenyo. Mogan has denied the charges of racially aggravated behavior, claiming that he was provoked by Semenyo. The court is set to hear further evidence, including Semenyo's testimony via videolink.
