Court Hears Allegations of Racist Abuse Against Antoine Semenyo at Anfield
During a Premier League match at Anfield on August 15, 2025, footballer Antoine Semenyo, then with Bournemouth, allegedly faced racial abuse from a Liverpool fan, Mark Mogan. The incident occurred as Semenyo was preparing to take a throw-in.
Prosecutors stated that Mogan, 47, shouted a racist insult approximately 30 minutes into the match, causing Semenyo to freeze in shock. The player reported the incident to the referee, Anthony Taylor, when the ball was next out of play. Mogan, who uses a wheelchair, was removed from the stadium at halftime.
Witnesses testified that Mogan displayed aggressive behavior, including throwing chewing gum at Semenyo. Mogan denies the charges of racially aggravated behavior, claiming he was provoked by Semenyo's remarks. The prosecution argues that Mogan's statements during a police interview were misleading.
