Coventry City Manager Questions VAR Decisions After Loss to Everton
Coventry City manager Frank Lampard raised concerns about officiating after his team's 3-1 loss to Everton, highlighting three key decisions that went against them. The match took place on Friday, where Thierno Barry scored twice for Everton, alongside a late goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Yann Gboho had initially given Coventry the lead.
During the first half, Coventry felt they should have been awarded a penalty when James Tarkowski allegedly pulled Caleb Yirenkyi's hair. Referee Stuart Attwell did not grant the penalty, citing the relaxed rules around hair pulling this season. Lampard argued that the officials misjudged the situation, stating that the incident warranted a foul.
In addition to the hair pull, Lampard believed that Taiwo Awoniyi was fouled just before Coventry's goal, although replays indicated the contact occurred outside the penalty area. He also claimed that Barry's second goal should have been disallowed for handball, but VAR did not intervene. Everton's manager David Moyes defended the decisions, asserting that the hair pull rule needs reevaluation.
