Cowboys Waive Joe Milton, Aim to Re-sign for Practice Squad

The Dallas Cowboys made the unexpected decision to waive quarterback Joe Milton on Monday, with plans to potentially re-sign him for the practice squad.

Milton's release followed the Cowboys' acquisition of running back Emari Demercado, which created a need for a roster spot. Coach Brian Schottenheimer and executive vice president Stephen Jones indicated their desire to bring Milton back as the team's third quarterback, contingent on him clearing waivers.

During the preseason, Milton showcased his skills by completing 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, along with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also contributed with 12 carries for 14 yards and a rushing touchdown. The Cowboys had previously traded a fifth-round pick to New England for Milton, who served as Dak Prescott's backup last season.
