CPL Playoffs Begin with Atlético Ottawa Aiming for Title Defense
The Canadian Premier League has wrapped up its eighth regular season, culminating in a thrilling finish last week. Cavalry FC secured first place in the standings, narrowly edging out Forge FC, while FC Supra du Québec clinched a playoff spot, surpassing Vancouver FC.
The playoffs will kick off this weekend, reverting to a traditional format. Cavalry FC, having won the CPL Shield with 60 points, will face FC Supra in a two-legged semifinal. Meanwhile, Atlético Ottawa, the defending champions with 43 points, will compete against Forge FC. The winners will advance to a final hosted by the higher seed.
Atlético Ottawa aims to become the second team to win back-to-back titles after their victory in last year's final. Despite losing key players in the off-season, they finished third in the league, bolstered by veteran midfielder Manny Aparicio and new forward Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau. Cavalry FC enters the playoffs as a formidable opponent, having set a league record for goals scored and home points this season.
