Cressington Commuters Face Month-Long Rail Closure

A planned four-week closure on a section of Merseyrail's Northern Line will affect Cressington commuters starting October 11. The closure, lasting until November 6, is necessary for maintenance work, including strengthening and waterproofing four tunnels.

Liberal Democrat councillor Richard Clein criticized the disruption, noting that residents have already faced reduced services in recent months. Network Rail stated that the £3.5 million project aims to prevent water damage to the electrified third rail, which could lead to power failures and unplanned closures.

During the closure, rail replacement bus services will be provided for passengers traveling between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Central. Clein expressed concerns about the impact on local commuters and called for the work to be phased to minimize disruption.
