Cricket Australia Reports Record Revenue Despite Financial Setbacks
Cricket Australia announced a record revenue of A$601.1 million ($423 million) for the 2025-26 financial year, largely attributed to media rights agreements for the Ashes series and the limited-overs matches against India. The organization also reported a net surplus of A$81.8 million ($57 million), despite facing a financial setback from two Ashes Tests that concluded within two days, resulting in an estimated loss of A$20 million.
The financial results reflect a strong commercial performance and record audience attendance during the international season. In the previous year, Cricket Australia recorded a net loss of A$11.3 million ($7.95 million). The Ashes series against England and the white-ball series against India generated significant media and match-day revenue, although future projections indicate potential deficits for the next two years due to a cyclical decline in revenues.
During the year, Australia's men's cricket team retained the Ashes with a 4-1 series victory, while the women's team secured their seventh ICC T20 World Cup title. The Ashes series attracted record crowds, with 859,580 spectators attending matches over 18 days. However, the two-day Tests at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Perth caused a substantial revenue impact, prompting discussions about the necessity of five-day matches.
