Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Legal Challenges with Juventus and in Portugal
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently navigating legal challenges on two fronts, including disciplinary proceedings in Portugal and a financial dispute with Juventus. As he awaits a decision regarding his status with the national team, Juventus has escalated its legal battle concerning payments owed to Ronaldo.
The dispute with Juventus has progressed through arbitration and a Turin court, both of which ruled in favor of Ronaldo regarding a central payment issue. Juventus has appealed to Italy’s Court of Cassation, contesting a ruling that requires the club to pay Ronaldo approximately €9.8 million ($10.9 million) in deferred wages from his final season.
This financial disagreement stems from arrangements made during the COVID-19 pandemic, where Ronaldo claims he was promised wages that remain unpaid. Juventus argues that the agreement lacks enforceability due to the absence of Ronaldo's signature and his failure to formally request the payment. The ongoing legal proceedings have not yet been resolved, as Juventus awaits a hearing date from the Court of Cassation.
