Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Provisional Suspension from Portuguese National Team
Cristiano Ronaldo has received a provisional suspension from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) after departing from the national team's camp last month. The incident occurred when Ronaldo, who is 41 years old, left the squad during the Nations League after being an unused substitute against Norway and learning he would not start in the upcoming match against Denmark.
The FPF issued the suspension on October 9, marking the case as urgent. According to the federation's regulations, players who abandon international duties may face bans ranging from one to six months, along with potential fines. Ronaldo expressed that he left due to a breach of trust with coach Jorge Jesus, who he accused of not keeping promises.
Despite the suspension, Ronaldo has taken responsibility for his actions and apologized to his teammates and fans. He clarified that he does not intend to retire from international football, as he aims to reach 1,000 career goals. He has scored 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal, holding records in men's football. Recently, he scored his 980th career goal in a match for Al-Nassr.
