Crocodile Spotted in Pavones Ocean

A six-foot crocodile was observed swimming in the ocean at Pavones, Costa Rica, on September 13. The sighting occurred when an onlooker recorded the reptile leisurely moving through the water, and fortunately, the surf lineup was empty due to minimal swell in the region.

Crocodiles typically inhabit rivers and estuaries but are known to venture into the ocean. This incident highlights the potential dangers for surfers, as crocodile attacks have occurred in Costa Rica, including a serious incident in Tamarindo in 2016. Between 2015 and 2024, Costa Rica reported 28 crocodile attacks, though it remains less prone to such incidents compared to countries like India and Indonesia.
