Crystal Palace Signs Takehiro Tomiyasu After Trial

Crystal Palace has officially signed Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu after he impressed during a pre-season trial. The 27-year-old, who was a free agent after his time with Ajax, has previously played for Arsenal and was part of Japan's World Cup squad this summer.

Tomiyasu, capable of playing both full-back and centre-back, becomes the second signing for manager Pierre Sage, following Oscar Mingueza. The club has not disclosed the duration of his contract. This move comes as Palace seeks to bolster their defense after the departure of Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea.

Palace chairman Steve Parish highlighted Tomiyasu's extensive experience in European and international football. The club is also exploring potential loan options for Chelsea's Josh Acheampong and has shown interest in Brest's Raphael le Guen. As Palace prepares for another season in the Europa League, they must navigate UEFA's financial regulations while strengthening their squad.
