Crystal Palace has strengthened its squad for the upcoming European season by acquiring Zavier Gozo, a 19-year-old winger and U.S. youth international, from Real Salt Lake in a record transfer deal.
The transfer, finalized late Monday, reportedly cost $15 million and includes a five-year contract for Gozo. Real Salt Lake announced that they will retain a significant percentage of any future transfer fee for the player, who is noted as the first native of Utah to join a Premier League club.
Crystal Palace is set to begin its Premier League campaign against Everton on Saturday and will also participate in the Europa League, with the league phase draw scheduled to take place in Monaco next week.
