Cubs Activate Clay Holmes for Team Debut

The Chicago Cubs have activated right-hander Clay Holmes from the 60-day injured list, allowing him to make his team debut against the Kansas City Royals. Holmes returns to the mound after missing nearly three months due to a fractured fibula sustained from a comebacker in mid-May.

To accommodate Holmes, left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett has been sent back to Triple-A. Holmes, who was traded to the Cubs from the Mets along with outfielder Tyrone Taylor, had been performing well prior to his injury, posting a 2.39 ERA in nine starts. His last outing was with High-A Brooklyn, where he pitched 5 1/3 innings.

The Cubs have faced significant injury challenges in their rotation this season, losing multiple pitchers to injuries, including Cade Horton to Tommy John surgery. The team has made recent acquisitions, including Holmes and Kevin Gausman, to bolster their pitching staff.
