Cubs Adjust Pitching Staff with Cabrera's Return

Javier Assad was optioned to Triple-A Iowa after making 21 appearances this season, where he recorded a 6-1 record and a 3.59 ERA. Despite his solid performance in various roles, the Cubs opted for this move to allow him to continue starting and developing further.

David Peterson, who joined the Cubs in late June, will transition from a starting role to long relief. He has posted a 4.19 ERA over eight starts, and his prior experience as a reliever likely influenced this decision. With roster expansions approaching, the Cubs are expected to have significant pitching depth, potentially featuring eight primary starters on their roster.
