Cubs Designate Hoby Milner for Assignment

The Chicago Cubs have designated left-handed pitcher Hoby Milner for assignment, according to reports. Milner, who was on the 15-day injured list, has seen the Cubs' 40-man roster decrease to 39 players.

Milner, 35, joined the Cubs this offseason on a one-year contract worth $3.75 million. He made 38 appearances before being placed on the injured list in June due to an appendectomy. After beginning a rehab assignment in late July, the Cubs opted not to reinstate him as the 30-day limit for rehab assignments approached.

With the trade deadline now passed, Milner will be placed on waivers soon. Despite a decline in performance this season, he may attract interest due to his previous success as a lefty reliever. He has a remaining salary of approximately $600,000 this year and could become postseason eligible if he signs with another team by September 1.
