Cubs End Shelby Miller's Season Due to Caution

The Chicago Cubs have announced that Shelby Miller will not participate for the rest of the 2026 season, according to manager Craig Counsell. This decision was made prior to the team's loss against Atlanta.

Miller is currently recovering from UCL and flexor surgery he underwent last fall while with the Brewers. Although he was initially ahead in his rehabilitation and had a chance to compete for a playoff roster spot, the Cubs opted for caution due to his medical history. This marks Miller's second elbow ligament repair, following a Tommy John surgery in 2017.

While Miller showed some signs of rust during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa, he still managed to strike out 15 batters and averaged nearly 96 mph on his fastball. However, his command was inconsistent, leading the Cubs to question his reliability for postseason play. The Cubs are currently facing challenges in their bullpen as they aim for a Wild Card berth.
