Cubs Place Edward Cabrera and Dansby Swanson on Injured List
The Chicago Cubs have announced that pitcher Edward Cabrera will be sidelined for 15 days due to a blister on his right middle finger. Additionally, shortstop Dansby Swanson has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain.
In response to these injuries, the Cubs have optioned infielder James Triantos to Triple-A Iowa and recalled right-hander Javier Assad and outfielder Kevin Alcántara. They also selected the contract of infielder Owen Miller, transferring right-hander Daniel Palencia to the 60-day injured list to create a spot on the 40-man roster.
Swanson's injury was anticipated to keep him out for several weeks, with manager Craig Counsell estimating a recovery period of about four weeks. This situation will likely see Nico Hoerner taking over shortstop duties, while Pedro Ramírez may see increased playing time at second base. Cabrera, who just returned from a hamstring strain, faced difficulties in his first outing back due to the blister, which has been a recurring issue for him throughout his career.
