Cubs Release Pitcher Jhon Rosario Ahead of Series Against Reds

The Chicago Cubs announced the release of 21-year-old right-handed pitcher Jhon Rosario from their Single-A affiliate on Friday, coinciding with the start of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.

Rosario, who was born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, signed with the Cubs as an international free agent in March 2024. He struggled during his time with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, posting an 0-1 record with a 10.25 ERA in 15 appearances this season. Over three minor league seasons, he recorded a 6-4 record with a 6.31 ERA.

The Cubs are currently managing their roster depth in the lower levels of their farm system, and Rosario's performance contributed to the decision to release him. The team is focusing on their upcoming games against the Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers, as they aim to improve their standing in the National League Central.
