Cubs Set to Activate Daniel Palencia from Injured List
The Chicago Cubs are preparing to activate reliever Daniel Palencia from the 60-day injured list before their series opener against Seattle on Friday. This move comes as the team looks to adjust its pitching staff following an off day.
Palencia was recently transferred to the 60-day IL to facilitate the call-up of Owen Miller, but this did not affect his rehabilitation timeline. He has been sidelined since June 16 and has only made 19 appearances this season due to previous injuries. When healthy, Palencia has proven to be a key asset for the Cubs, boasting a strong strikeout rate and a notable performance in the World Baseball Classic.
In Palencia's absence, Jacob Webb has stepped up as a reliable closer, maintaining a scoreless streak since June 20. The Cubs are also expecting additional bullpen support soon, with Hoby Milner recovering from an appendectomy and Edward Cabrera set to transition to the bullpen after dealing with a blister issue. Shelby Miller is also on a rehab assignment, potentially returning in September after elbow surgery.
