Cubs Set to Activate Matt Shaw for Series Against Reds

The Chicago Cubs are expected to activate utility player Matt Shaw for their upcoming series against the Cincinnati Reds. Shaw, who was the team's first-round draft pick in 2022, has been sidelined since late June due to a hand and wrist injury.

Before his injury, Shaw had been performing well, posting a .323 batting average in April. His return follows a two-month rehabilitation period, and he was seen arriving at Wrigley Field, indicating he is ready to rejoin the major league roster. The Cubs made room for Shaw by optioning outfielder Kevin Alcantara to Triple-A Iowa.

Shaw primarily played third base during his rookie season but started this year as the right fielder. His rehab assignments included time at left field, shortstop, and second base, suggesting he could be utilized in various positions as the Cubs adjust their lineup due to injuries.
