Cubs Shortstop Dansby Swanson to Miss 4-6 Weeks Due to Oblique Strain
Dansby Swanson, the shortstop for the Chicago Cubs, has been placed on the injured list due to a Grade 2 oblique strain, as reported by ESPN and MLB.com on Monday.
The injury occurred during the third inning of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, forcing Swanson to exit after an awkward swing. Initial reports described the issue as left side discomfort, but it was later confirmed as an oblique injury, with an MRI scheduled for Monday. The expected recovery time is four to six weeks, which could extend into the postseason.
Swanson, who has struggled this season with a batting average of .216, has hit 18 home runs and driven in 66 runs over 119 games. The Cubs currently lead the National League wild-card standings but trail the Milwaukee Brewers by five games in the NL Central. In Swanson's absence, Nico Hoerner is anticipated to take over the shortstop position, having moved from second base.
