Daiquiri Bay Triumphs in Ebor Handicap at York
Daiquiri Bay emerged victorious in the Ebor Handicap at York, winning a £300,000 prize and an automatic entry into the Melbourne Cup. The race concluded with a thrilling three-way sprint finish involving Hopewell Rock and Opportunity.
The 10-1 shot, trained by Alan King, navigated the nearside rails to triumph over a competitive field of 22 horses, claiming the largest share of the £500,000 prize fund. Hopewell Rock, at odds of 13-2, secured second place in a photo finish, while Opportunity, trained by William Haggas, finished third at 14-1.
Winning jockey Rossa Ryan noted that the race unfolded as planned, attributing the success to the meticulous preparation by trainer Alan King. Daiquiri Bay had previously won at Newmarket and the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot, showcasing a strong performance throughout the year. Despite being the pre-race favorite, Love Me Tender finished in 10th place.
