Dale Brown, Renowned LSU Basketball Coach, Passes Away at 90
Dale Brown, a prominent figure in LSU basketball history, has died at the age of 90. His passing was confirmed by LSU, occurring just days before what would have been his 91st birthday.
Brown was recognized for his coaching achievements, including being named AP Coach of the Year in 1981 and earning four SEC Coach of the Year titles. He holds the record for the most wins in LSU's program history and led the team to two NCAA Final Four appearances in 1981 and 1986. He coached notable players, including Shaquille O'Neal, during his tenure from 1989 to 1992.
Despite facing challenges, including an NCAA investigation that led to LSU's probation in 1998, Brown remained a beloved figure in Louisiana. He was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, and LSU's basketball court was named in his honor in 2022. Brown's legacy includes his contributions to education through the Dale Brown Foundation, which supports students with disabilities and those from financially struggling families.
