Dan Altavilla Becomes Free Agent After Opting Out of Royals Deal

Dan Altavilla, a right-handed pitcher, has opted out of his minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals, becoming a free agent. This decision was reported by Jon Heyman of The New York Post.

Altavilla, 33, joined the Royals in late May and played for Triple-A Omaha, where he participated in 20 games, pitching 24 2/3 innings with an earned run average of 5.11. His performance included a 42.9% ground ball rate, but both his walk and strikeout rates were at 15%, indicating challenges on the mound.

Prior to his time with the Royals, Altavilla was with the Minnesota Twins, where he recorded a 7.32 ERA in Triple-A. Despite his struggles this season, he is looking to find a new opportunity in the open market, hoping that teams will consider his overall career statistics, which include a 4.00 ERA over 148 2/3 innings in the major leagues.
