Dana Altman Retires as Oregon Coach Before 2026-27 Season
Dana Altman has announced his retirement as head coach of the Oregon Ducks, effective immediately, just weeks before the start of the 2026-27 season. He has been at the helm since 2010, achieving 792 career wins across multiple programs, including Oregon.
During his 16 seasons with Oregon, Altman secured 382 victories, the highest in the program's history, and led the team to nine NCAA Tournament appearances. His tenure included four Pac-12 regular season titles and a conference championship, with a notable run to the Final Four in 2017.
Oregon's assistant coach, Tony Stubblefield, will take over as interim head coach for the upcoming season. Stubblefield has previous head coaching experience and rejoined the Ducks' staff in 2024 after a stint at DePaul. Altman's retirement follows a trend of coaches stepping down shortly before the season, similar to recent retirements by other prominent coaches.
