Dana Altman Retires as Oregon Ducks Coach, Search for Replacement Begins
Dana Altman has announced his retirement from coaching the Oregon Ducks after 16 seasons, marking the end of a highly successful era for the basketball program.
During his tenure, Altman achieved a record of 382-182, leading the Ducks to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, four Pac-12 regular-season titles, and the program's first Final Four since 1939. Following his departure, Tony Stubblefield will take on the role of interim coach for the 2026-27 season, while Oregon plans to conduct a national search for a permanent replacement.
The search will consider several candidates, including coaches with significant experience and success at various levels. Notable names include Smith, who has a proven track record of building competitive teams, and Drew, who has established Grand Canyon as a strong mid-major program. Other potential candidates include Schertz, known for his fast-paced style, and Olen, who has successfully transformed programs at both UC San Diego and New Mexico.
