Despite being the victim of fouls, Aspinall has been criticized by some fans and fighters, including TJ Dillashaw, who suggested he was looking for an escape from the match. Rogan defended Aspinall during a recent podcast, stating that the criticism was unwarranted. Cormier echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Aspinall made the right choice by not continuing the fight while compromised.

Aspinall has since recovered from double eye surgery and is now awaiting a rematch against Gane, which will serve as a unification bout after Gane secured the interim heavyweight title.
