Daniel Jones Faces Uncertain Future with Colts Following GM Firing
Indianapolis Colts team owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon confirmed the firing of general manager Chris Ballard on Monday, following the team's 26-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans, which dropped their record to 2-4.
Reports suggest that Ballard's decision to sign quarterback Daniel Jones to a two-year, $88 million contract may be viewed as a significant error. ESPN's Stephen Holder indicated that the next general manager is unlikely to maintain ties with Jones, raising the possibility that he could be replaced by 2027.
Jones is currently struggling, ranking near the bottom of the league in several key statistics, including adjusted QBR and passer rating. Although Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Jones will start in the upcoming game against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, the team has the option to void his contract after this season, which would incur a $35 million dead money charge against their salary cap.
