Daniel Jones Reflects on Philip Rivers' Impact During Colts' Injury Crisis
In December, the Indianapolis Colts turned to veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, who at 44 years old, started games for the first time since the 2020 season. This decision came amid an injury crisis that sidelined starter Daniel Jones due to a torn Achilles tendon.
NFL insider Albert Breer reported that Jones gained insights from observing Rivers during his three starts for the Colts in 2025. He noted that Rivers demonstrated an intuitive understanding of the game, particularly in reading defenders' eyes and adjusting to pressure, which Jones found valuable.
Before his injury, Jones was having a standout season, ranking eighth in adjusted QBR and ninth in passer rating among NFL quarterbacks. He signed a two-year, $88 million contract with the Colts, potentially reaching $100 million. As he prepares for the upcoming season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, questions remain about his recovery speed, with his current top speed post-surgery recorded at 19.7 MPH.
