Daniel Kretinsky Becomes West Ham's Largest Shareholder
Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky has finalized a deal to acquire a 46% stake in West Ham United, positioning him as the club's largest shareholder. This agreement involves the remaining shareholders, including former chairman David Sullivan, who will see his stake increase from 38.8% to 40%.
The arrangement effectively ends Amanda Staveley's aspirations to invest in the club, as it was triggered before a deadline set by a pre-emption rights agreement that allowed existing directors the first opportunity to purchase shares. Kretinsky's acquisition includes a significant portion of shares previously owned by the Gold family.
In addition, Tripp Smith will raise his ownership to 11%, while other shareholders will maintain a combined 3%. Sullivan's ongoing status at West Ham is under review by an independent regulator, although this latest transaction is not expected to prompt further scrutiny. No comments have been made by Kretinsky, Sullivan, Gold, or West Ham regarding the deal.
