Daniel Ricciardo Reflects on Regret Over Leaving Red Bull
Daniel Ricciardo has shared his regret about leaving the Red Bull Formula 1 team at the end of the 2018 season to join Renault. The Australian driver, who achieved seven Grand Prix victories with Red Bull, acknowledged that he wished he had remained with the team.
Ricciardo's departure allowed Max Verstappen to become the team's lead driver, leading to Verstappen winning four consecutive world titles starting in 2021. In contrast, Ricciardo secured only one more victory, at Monza in 2021, before his F1 career concluded in 2024. During a podcast interview, he revealed that Red Bull had wanted him to stay and reflected on how his decision was influenced by a desire for change.
He noted that leaving Red Bull likely cost him a prime opportunity to compete for a world championship, expressing curiosity about how his career might have unfolded had he stayed. Ricciardo emphasized that he was still performing at a high level during his final season with Red Bull, as evidenced by his win at the Monaco Grand Prix and a pole position in Mexico.
