Daron Payne Out for Season with Foot Injury, Trade Speculation Ends
Daron Payne, a defensive lineman for the Washington Commanders, has sustained a season-ending Jones fracture during practice, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
This injury is particularly challenging for the Commanders, who currently hold a record of 1-4-1 and are in need of a win against the Eagles following their bye week. Payne, 29, has been a vital component of the defense, participating in nearly 75% of the team's defensive plays this season, contributing one sack, 14 tackles, two tackles for loss, and five quarterback hits.
With Payne sidelined, the Commanders face further challenges as fellow defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw is out with a knee injury, and Johnny Newton is questionable due to a pec injury. This leaves only Tim Settle and Shy Tuttle available on the active roster. Additionally, Payne's injury eliminates him as a potential trade candidate, as he is in the final year of a four-year, $90 million contract and could have been sought after by teams in need of a defensive tackle.
