Dave Bautista in Talks to Replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in God of War Series
Dave Bautista is reportedly in discussions to assume the role of Kratos in the live-action adaptation of God of War, following Ryan Hurst's injury. Hurst, who was cast in January 2026, suffered a torn bicep during a stunt in late June, prompting a pause in production.
After Hurst's injury required surgery and a lengthy recovery, the decision was made to recast the role. Preparations for the production restart are anticipated to begin in mid-August, with filming expected to resume in mid-October in Vancouver, Canada.
Bautista, known for his background in professional wrestling and recent work in Highlander, is seen as a strong candidate for the role. He has also gained recognition in Hollywood for his performances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 007: Spectre, and Dune. The God of War series has been ordered for two seasons, which will follow the journey of Kratos and his son, Atreus, based on the 2018 video game.
