David Coulthard Challenges F1 Drivers' Excuses Over 2026 Regulations
David Coulthard has rejected the notion that the new regulations for Formula 1 in 2026 are responsible for drivers' difficulties in performance. He emphasized that top drivers have historically adapted to various car specifications.
During a discussion on the Up To Speed podcast after the United States Grand Prix, Coulthard pointed out that despite the introduction of significant regulatory changes, a driver's fundamental performance should not be influenced by the rules. He referenced his own experiences with different car types throughout his career, noting that his performance remained consistent regardless of the machinery.
Coulthard also mentioned renowned drivers like Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, suggesting they did not face unfavorable conditions in their careers. He acknowledged the challenges faced by current drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, but expressed skepticism about the idea that certain cars do not suit specific drivers.
