David Finlay Reflects on WWE Aspirations Before NJPW Career
David Finlay, currently wrestling in AEW, shared insights about his initial aspirations to join WWE, influenced by his family's wrestling background. His father, Fit Finlay, a producer and trainer for WWE, had mapped out a career plan for him that included amateur wrestling and training in England and Germany before a brief stint in Japan.
Originally intended to last six months, Finlay's time in New Japan Pro Wrestling extended to eleven years due to his passion for the promotion. During his tenure, he achieved notable success, including winning the IWGP Global Championship twice and the NEVER Openweight Championship. He also secured the IWGP Tag Team Championships alongside Juice Robinson.
Finlay has continued to build on his success in AEW, where he won the AEW World Trios Championships with his partners Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors in April.
