David Rath Leaves Essendon Coaching Staff
David Rath has decided to leave Essendon Football Club at the conclusion of the season to pursue new opportunities. He served as the coaching innovation and game strategy manager, joining the club prior to the 2024 season and collaborating closely with former coach Brad Scott.
During his three seasons with Essendon, Rath contributed to various aspects of the club's football strategy, including player biomechanics and game analysis. His departure follows that of assistant coach Ben Jacobs and head of psychology and wellbeing Ben Robbins, who left in May. Both were closely associated with Scott.
Essendon is expected to announce a new senior coach next week, with former players James Hird and Mark McVeigh among the leading candidates. Caretaker Dean Solomon, who has struggled in his role, has ruled himself out of contention for the permanent position.
