David Warner Fined for Drink-Driving Offense in Sydney
David Warner, a former Australian cricketer, has been fined A$1,500 (£1,109) and required to install an interlock device in his car after pleading guilty to drink-driving in Sydney this past April.
The incident occurred when Warner, 39, was driving home with his family from a social event and failed a random breath test, registering a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. He attempted to switch seats with a female passenger upon noticing a roadside testing site.
During the court proceedings at Waverley Local Court, the judge noted the seriousness of the offense, particularly as children were present in the vehicle. Warner's lawyer argued against a conviction, citing the negative impact of media coverage on his client's commercial prospects. Warner, who retired from international cricket in 2024, currently serves as a commentator and leads teams in the Pakistan Super League and Big Bash League. Cricket NSW emphasized their commitment to promoting safe driving practices.
