Deepanshu Suspended from Asian Games Due to Doping Violation
Indian Greco-Roman wrestler Deepanshu has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after failing an out-of-competition drug test for the anabolic steroid stanozolol. This suspension comes just ahead of the Asian Games, where he was set to compete in the 130kg category.
Deepanshu had previously won the Asian Games selection trials in Lucknow and was included in the national squad. However, following the positive test, he has been removed from both the national camp and the squad. His sample was collected during the trials and tested positive at the National Dope Testing Laboratory.
This incident marks Deepanshu's second doping violation, having previously served a three-year ban for a similar offence. As a repeat offender, he faces a potential ban of up to eight years, which could jeopardize his wrestling career. His suspension adds to the challenges faced by Indian wrestling during a critical time in preparation for the Games.
