Deion Sanders Seeks to Avoid Testifying in Son's Bankruptcy Trial
Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado football team, has been subpoenaed to testify in his son Shilo's bankruptcy trial, which is set to begin on August 31. Sanders' legal team is working to prevent him from having to appear in court.
His attorney, Harvey Steinberg, has filed a motion arguing that Sanders' coaching responsibilities require his presence to prepare for the CU Buffaloes' first game on September 3 in Atlanta, Georgia. The motion states that attending court would impose undue burdens on Sanders and negatively affect the team's preparation.
Additionally, Steinberg contends that the subpoena was not properly served, despite agreeing to accept it on Sanders' behalf. The case involves a judgment against Shilo for $11.89 million related to an incident with a security guard in 2015. The court will ultimately decide if the injuries sustained were willful and malicious, which would affect the discharge of the debt.
