Delhi Capitals Cricketer Abhishek Porel Arrested on Rape Charges

Abhishek Porel, a cricketer for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, was arrested in Hooghly district on Monday night after a woman filed a complaint against him. The complaint alleged that Porel had engaged in sexual relations with her on the promise of marriage.

The police acted on a court order to arrest Porel, who was taken into custody by Mogra police. He is scheduled to appear in court in Chinsurah later today. The case against him includes several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Information Technology Act.

The complaint was lodged by a medical student from Karnataka on June 23, stating that she had been in a relationship with Porel for approximately three and a half years, during which they had discussed marriage.
