DeMeco Ryans Assumes Defensive Play-Calling for Texans Amid 0-4 Start
Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans announced on Wednesday that he will take over the defensive play-calling responsibilities from defensive coordinator Matt Burke, following the team's disappointing 0-4 start to the season.
This decision comes after a recent loss to the Dallas Cowboys, where the Texans' defense struggled, allowing 399 yards and four touchdowns in the second half. Ryans emphasized the need for improved communication within the defense, stating that he is taking this step to enhance the team's performance.
Despite the Texans' defense ranking well in several categories, they have seen a significant decline in their ability to prevent explosive plays, dropping from 14th to 28th in explosive play rate. Ryans hopes that regaining control over play-calling will help rectify these issues as the Texans prepare for their upcoming game against the Titans.
