DeMeco Ryans Resumes Defensive Play-Calling for Texans
DeMeco Ryans, the head coach of the Houston Texans, has announced that he will resume defensive play-calling duties following the team's 0-4 start to the season. This decision was revealed during a press conference on Wednesday.
Ryans previously handed over these responsibilities to defensive coordinator Matt Burke last season. Despite the Texans ranking highly in scoring defense and yards allowed last year, they currently sit at 20th in yards allowed and 26th in points allowed after the first four games of the season. Ryans cited communication issues as a key factor prompting his return to play-calling.
Ryans expressed that he takes responsibility for the team's communication challenges and aims to enhance it by directly overseeing the defense. He acknowledged the difficulty of this decision but emphasized that it was made with the team's best interests in mind. The Texans will face the Titans in Week 5, where the impact of this change will be assessed.
