Demi Vollering Claims Victory in Stage Five of Tour de France Femmes

Demi Vollering of the Netherlands triumphed in stage five of the Tour de France Femmes, winning a sprint against Marlen Reusser, the current yellow jersey holder. The stage covered 140 kilometers from Macon to Belleville-en-Beaujolais, near Lyon.

Vollering, riding for FDJ United-Suez, finished just ahead of Movistar's Reusser after both riders broke away from Poland's Kasia Niewiadoma during the final stretch of the race. The decisive moments occurred on the challenging Mont Brouilly climb, which featured steep gradients.

Despite the loss, Reusser maintained her overall lead after a strong performance in the previous time trial. Vollering's victory adds to her impressive season, while defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot faced significant setbacks, falling behind in the general classification.
