Derek Carr Joins UCLA as Special Advisor to Head Coach
UCLA has announced the hiring of Derek Carr, the former quarterback for the Raiders and Saints, as a special advisor to head coach Bob Chesney.
In this role, Carr will assist with game-planning and collaborate with the offensive staff, specifically focusing on the quarterbacks. Although Carr has no prior connection to UCLA, he played college football at Fresno State, where UCLA General Manager Darrick Yray was an assistant during Carr's time there.
Carr expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to support the UCLA program and share his experiences. He last played in 2024 and has considered a potential return to the NFL, although any interested team would need to negotiate with the Saints, who currently hold his rights.
