Deshaun Watson Leads Browns' Quarterback Battle Over Shedeur Sanders
Deshaun Watson appears to be in a strong position to secure the starting quarterback role for the Cleveland Browns, as indicated by a recent update ahead of a joint practice with the Buffalo Bills.
During a discussion on ESPN Cleveland, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler noted that Watson is leading the quarterback competition following the Browns' preseason game against the Chicago Bears on August 15. Fowler mentioned that if Watson is named the Week 1 starter, the Browns might consider trading Shedeur Sanders, although it remains uncertain whether there would be sufficient trade value for him.
Previously, the Browns had no plans to trade Sanders, but Watson's performance has shifted the dynamics. In the preseason loss to the Bears, Watson completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 yards, while Sanders went 6 of 11 for 79 yards with an interception. Sanders is set to start in the upcoming home game against Buffalo, and Fowler suggested that both Sanders and the Browns might prefer to maintain their relationship, as Sanders could still be a viable option if Watson struggles.
