Deshaun Watson Leads QB Competition for Browns' Preseason Opener
Deshaun Watson has reportedly had his best day in training camp as he competes with Shedeur Sanders for the starting quarterback position for the Cleveland Browns. First-year head coach Todd Monken stated that a decision on the starter for the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears on August 15 has not yet been made.
Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot suggested that Watson is likely to start against the Bears, with Sanders potentially taking the lead in the following home game against the Buffalo Bills on August 22. Cabot indicated that Watson could be named the starting quarterback for Week 1 before the final preseason game against the New England Patriots on August 27.
Reports from training camp suggest that Watson has regained an edge in the competition, demonstrating the qualities expected of an NFL starting quarterback. While Watson appears to be the frontrunner, Cabot emphasized that the competition remains open until both players have had the opportunity to play in the preseason.
