Deshaun Watson Named Starting Quarterback for Browns' Preseason Opener

Deshaun Watson has been designated as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in their preseason opener scheduled for Saturday in Chicago.

This announcement was made by Browns coach Todd Monken following the team's last full practice of the week. Monken has indicated that Watson will start one preseason game while Shedeur Sanders will start another, maintaining that the competition for the starting position is ongoing.

Watson, who has not played in a game since October 2024 due to recovery from an Achilles injury, is expected to play the first half of the game, with Sanders taking over in the third quarter. The Browns will also participate in a joint practice with the Bills on August 20, ahead of their preseason matchup on August 22, where both quarterbacks will have further opportunities to compete.
