Deshaun Watson Prepares for First Start in Nearly Two Years

Deshaun Watson has been confirmed as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns' opening game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 24, following a competitive offseason with Shedeur Sanders.

Watson, who joined the Browns in 2022, has played in only 19 games due to off-field issues and injuries. Despite his three Pro Bowl selections, his performance has not justified the $230 million contract he received from the team. After a disappointing preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, where he completed only 5 of 12 passes, Watson has focused on preparation for the upcoming season.

Coach Todd Monken expressed satisfaction with Watson's progress, noting that increased practice reps have helped him become more comfortable with the game plan. The Browns will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the Jaguars, and a strong performance from Watson could improve his reception from fans ahead of their home game against the Carolina Panthers on September 27.
