Recent developments have come to light concerning the July 26 shooting of Mia Bieniemy, the spouse of Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
According to The Athletic, two days prior to the incident, Elijah Bieniemy contacted law enforcement to express concerns that his parents were not allowing him access to his firearms. The 27-year-old, who identified himself as a certified UFC fighter, claimed he felt unable to defend himself without his weapons. He stated that his parents required him to surrender his firearms to continue living in their home and that they would only return them when he needed them.
Elijah Bieniemy faces charges including malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A judge has approved a request for a mental health evaluation for him, with his public defender citing significant mental health concerns that may affect his ability to participate in his defense. Meanwhile, Mia Bieniemy has been moved out of intensive care and is reportedly recovering.
